Eivind Groven's mother, Aslaug Rikardsdotter Berge, was alone with her four-years-old son Sverre when Eivind was born. Nearest neighbour, her sister, lived on a farm a mile away, and little Sverre had to run and ask her for help.
He was told:
"When you get there, tell my sister "Mum is ill, she lies in the living room." Are you able to do it?"
The boy repeated the words, and ran.. To remember his message, he was continuously singing "Mum is ill, she lies in the living room... Mum is ill, she lies in the living room."
He made it, and Eivind Groven was born in Eidsborg parish in Lårdal, October eigth, 1901.
